Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Programs (ATOD)

At Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC), we are committed to empowering youth, families, and communities with the knowledge and tools to make healthy, informed decisions. Our ATOD Prevention Program focuses on education, early intervention, and community engagement to reduce the risks associated with substance misuse. We operate our prevention programs in two PA counties, Delaware and Montgomery.

Delaware County ATOD Prevention Program

In Delaware County, ATOD prevention includes three evidence-based programs, Guiding Good Choices, Strengthening Families and Project Toward No Drug Abuse. Our staff also does community outreach and education through coalition meetings, health fairs and speaking engagements.

Family Game Night

Connection is prevention. All are welcome for an evening of fun! At Child Guidance Resource Centers, we know that strong family bonds are one of the most powerful protective factors in preventing youth from engaging in risky behaviors like alcohol, tobacco, and other drug misuse. One simple, fun, and effective way to build those bonds? Family game night.

Join other families for dinner, games and other activities to create lasting bonds with your family. For more information on our next Delaware County Family Game Night, please contact Lisa Schneller, Director of ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) Prevention.

Guiding Good Choices (Ages 9-14)

GGC is an evidence based 5-session virtual program for parents with children ages 9-14. The program is a multimedia family-competency training program specifically designed to strengthen parents' family management skills, parent-child bonding, and children's peer-resistance skills. Most sessions are parent-focused, though children attend one session, focused on peer pressure.

Prevention Presentations

Bring Prevention to Your Community.  Looking to educate and empower your group about substance misuse prevention? Invite a Child Guidance prevention specialist to speak at your school, organization, classroom, faith group, or youth program.

We offer engaging, age-appropriate presentations that are fully customized to meet the needs of your audience—whether it’s students, parents, educators, or community leaders.

Project Toward No Drug Abuse (Ages 14-19)

Project Toward No Drug Abuse is an effective, interactive substance abuse prevention program that is based on more than two decades of successful research at the University of Southern California. Project Toward No Drug Abuse focuses on three factors that predict tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, violence-related behaviors and other problem behaviors among youth. The program is created for ages 14-19 and includes 12 sessions, with a minimum of 2 per week.

Strengthening Families

Ages 6-11

Strengthening Families Program is a 14-session, evidence-based program designed for families with children ages 6–11. Parents and children attend together to build parenting strategies, enhance social skills, and strengthen family connections. The program helps improve behavior, reduce the risk of substance use, and support success at home and in school.

Ages 10-14

Strengthening Families is a 7-session, evidence-based program for families with children ages 10–14. Parents and children participate together to build parenting skills, improve communication, and strengthen family bonds. The program helps reduce problem behaviors, prevent substance use, and boost children’s social skills and school success.

Montgomery County ATOD Prevention Program

In Montgomery County, our prevention work is a combination of evidence-based programming, caregiver education, school collaboration, and outreach. Through communication across platforms, we work to prevent drug and alcohol misuse before it happens.

We have two choices for our clients to choose from Guiding Good Choices and Strengthening Families. We also regularly participate community outreach and education both in-person and on social media through awareness efforts throughout the year.

Guiding Good Choices (Ages 9-14)

Guiding Good Choices (GGC) is a free, 5-session online program for parents of kids ages 9–14. It helps parents build strong relationships, set clear rules, and prepare their children to handle peer pressure. Parents attend most sessions, and kids join one focused on peer resistance skills.

Strengthening Families (For ages 10-14)

Strengthening Families is a free, 7-session program for families with children ages 10–14. Parents and kids attend together to build stronger relationships, improve communication, and learn skills that reduce problem behaviors, substance use, and school challenges.
